Counselling and Learning Strategies

I will work with you to help you to start to feel better and to overcome your struggles.  I am passionate about working with adolescents and young adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, body image or transition issues, or relationship or friendship problems.  Since 2002, I have been counselling clients in the post secondary setting and have focused on counselling clients who have ADD, Learning Disabilities, and Mental Health Concerns.  I am not new to online therapy and have extensive experience providing phone and secure video counselling.  As a former high school teacher, college professor, and a certified learning strategist, I can provide counselling with a focus on academics to help you achieve success during the semester or help you be better prepared for your upcoming semester.

Therapeutic approaches in my counselling and supervision sessions:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Narrative Therapy

Mindfulness

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Motivational Interviewing

Strength Based Approach

Clinical Supervision

I am now at a point in my counselling career where I want to give back to my profession by supervising Registered Psychotherapists and RP's (Qualifying).  In supervision, I believe you are the expert of your own journey. I will work with you, but you set your own professional goals for supervision and I will help you achieve them. I create a supervision environment where you can feel comfortable talking about difficult situations in counselling sessions and struggles may you have, but I also focus on your achievements and your wins.  My unique skill set, which combines psychotherapy and teaching allows me to incorporate a variety of techniques into the supervision sessions.  I enjoy integrating a strength based approach into my supervision sessions, which allows us to also focus on your strengths and your wins.  I have a flexible approach and am able to tailor your supervision sessions to meet you needs.

My Clinical Supervisor Role Includes:

Discussing therapy cases and provide direction

Exploring legal and ethical issues

Signing supervision forms, as required by CRPO

Creation of supervision agreement

Informing you of professional development opportunities

Reviewing of case note format, intake, and confidentiality forms

Examining safe and effective use of self during therapy sessions

Encouraging self-care

And more...
